Students on an English course in Cambridge can enjoy a life rich in history and culture whilst living in the ‘posh’ English area, but you will also find fantastic and affordable night-life and vibrant groups and events unlike no other whilst living here.

English Courses in Cambridge

Many people from countries outside of England will know Cambridge. The word itself brings an air of ancient and prestigious academia. The city is world famous for its historic university that is made up of many individual colleges, which is why it is so attractive for tourists. But living and studying an English course in Cambridge has a whole whirlwind of things to offer the young international student. Once you have lived it, you will agree that there is nowhere quite like Cambridge. Although living in this kind of environment doesn’t come cheap, living in Cambridge is much cheaper than many other (less attractive) cities around Europe. As there are so many students in the town, there are an abundance of restaurants, bars and clubs that offer great deals and run student nights and happy hours, making it much more affordable to be a student living in a city. It’s easy to meet people and make friends with similar interests too, as around 20% of Cambridge’s 124,000 population are students, with many internationals being a part of this number Many students come from hundreds of countries to study in a city so prestigious for it’s academia.

Friendly Atmosphere

Cambridge is a wonderful place to live for people who don’t like the stuffy, fast-paced nature of regular city life. This city has a much more relaxed and friendly atmosphere that really makes you feel at home. There are green spaces and parks everywhere you turn, which give the place the feel of a small village or town. Acres of countryside surround the city and with the River Cam running right through too you will feel like you are living remotely, in a good way, and living in an out-in-the-open, fresh air and stress-free city will definitely be something you cherish.

Theatrics

In this day and age, theatres are out and cinemas are in (the chain brand type of cinema, where you can only view the latest blockbuster movies). However, Cambridge is, and has always been, a host to several incredible theatres and playhouses with a huge range of performances on offer throughout the year, from student and drama group theatre to touring and West End Shows. For many now-famous and up-and-coming actors, presenters and comedians, Cambridge has played a big role in their career thanks to the theatres and their club nights, comedy, theatre and dance performances. If you decide to study an English course in Cambridge around the September time, you will also be able to enjoy famous Cambridge Film Festival hosted at the Arts Picture-house, which shows an imaginative combination of films, short films, documentaries and a children’s film festival, as well as offering the chance to follow the River Cam up to Grantchester Meadows to enjoy an open-air cinema under the stars.

Bohemian Shops

Another favourite of our students living and studying an English course in Cambridge, is the alternative choice of shopping available in the city. As well as having an abundance of premium and high street brands in shopping centres and on the main central streets, Cambridge is also home to a wide variety of alternative markets, bohemian shops and country-chic boutiques.
